IEC61850 is a public communication standard. Through a series of standardization of equipment, it forms a standard output and realizes seamless connection of the system. IEC61850 communication protocol is mainly used in digital substation.

Intelligent substation also needs a variety of electrical monitoring equipment, for some equipment and manufacturers do not have the ability to meet the requirements of the implementation of the IEC61850 communication standard, it is necessary to add IEC61850 protocol converter to the equipment that does not meet the requirements. 61850 protocol converter is a kind of equipment which can not meet the IEC61850 communication standard, so it can be used in digital substation.

For example: when customers order the microcomputer harmonic elimination device, we will confirm with the customer whether the communication mode is IEC61850 or not. The customer requires that the microcomputer harmonic elimination device should be equipped with IEC61850 protocol converter. We will add a separate IEC61850 protocol converter during production and design the installation position.

Intelligent device manufacturers do not need to do any development work, only need to provide their own intelligent device communication interface. On the IEC61850 protocol converter, there are a variety of communication interfaces, which can be directly converted to achieve seamless connection with IEC61850 standard system. 61850 protocol converter is a lifesaver for some equipment manufacturers.
